Indian Crew on MV Dali Collides with Baltimore Bridge
By Sea and Coast | 27/03/2024
In the early hours of March 26, 2024, the MV Dali, a container ship under the Singapore flag, collided with the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, U.S. The entire 22-member crew, all Indian nationals, had alerted authorities about a "power issue" prior to the collision.

The vessel, owned by Grace Ocean Private Ltd and managed by Synergy Marine Group, was outbound from Baltimore to Colombo with a capacity of 10,000 TEU. The collision occurred around 1:30 am local time, causing a section of the bridge to collapse into the river.

Despite the severity of the collision, there were no reported injuries among the crew, which included two pilots. Prompt action from the crew and authorities helped prevent further vehicular traffic from entering the bridge, potentially averting more significant casualties.

Maryland Governor Wes Moore confirmed that the crew had indeed notified authorities about the power loss, leading to a Mayday call. The ship, reportedly traveling at a high speed, lost power and struck the bridge pillar.

While investigations are ongoing, initial assessments point towards an accident rather than a terrorist attack. The U.S. Coast Guard and local officials have been informed, and the vessel's owners and managers are cooperating with government agencies.

Maersk, whose cargo was onboard the MV Dali, expressed condolences and assured close monitoring of the investigation. Governor Moore declared a State of Emergency in Maryland, coordinating with federal, state, and local authorities for rescue efforts and resource deployment.

In the wake of this tragic incident, emergency personnel remain on the scene, conducting search and rescue operations for those affected by the bridge collapse. #BaltimoreBridgeCollision #SafetyFirst #Maritimenews #Maritime #Seaandcoast #News
